Thank you Lisbon!! For one of the most amazing trips I have ever been on. Because I said it was the most amazing you might think - great city, great people, perfect weather. Well 2/3 are correct Great city, great people, but perfect weather... not unless you call dramatic down pours and rain/wind filled days perfect then not so much.
The day before I left for our soon to be amazing trip in Lisbon I slept over at steph's house made some pizza and talked like girls tend to do. Guilty right? We had all the intentions to go to bed early - of course that did not work out. I think i slept more then steph- actually ik i did.. but anyways we got up at 3:45am to walk to sudbahnhof to catch the train at 4:12am. And we were off Lisbon here we come.
The funny thing about this trip is that I had no expectations of how Portugal was going to look or how the people were, sure I maybe assumed it had beaches and warmer colors, but that was not really on my mind the day we took off. I will admit that before going to Portugal I was ready to rather be getting on a plane to go home to WI. But lucky for me it was not a plane to WI but rather to Portugal where I had one heck of an experience. We arrived in Lisbon around noon and we caught a taxi which was only 8 euros for the 2 of us. Way cheaper than in Marburg when 8 euros means like 4 blocks. We made it to our hostel checked in and we were a bit skeptical like oh this will be fun??? We went to our room a 6 person room, this was my second time in a room with other people I did not know. I believe it was stephs first... but fun nonetheless. We had the hunnger buzz so we found a restuarant umm actually a sub place and guessed at what we wanted to eat and then ate it - i believe i had ham- and later to find out it was indeed ham- phew, i was a tad bit worried for awhile.
Then after our lovely dining experience we made it back to the hostel in time to take the free walking tour to alfama. It was really cool :) here are some pictures =
That car in the upper left was on the curb scrapped up against that brick block - and well our tour stopped and lifted that car up off the curb to set it to where it is now - haha crazy luck and amazing strength. The upper right is a church in the name of st.antonio. At first I was like no i have no idea who that is when the tour guide asked.. but later she said he is the st. of lost things.. Then I immediately knew who it was thanks to Lita may! Tony Tony come on down something here has to be found!! <3 love you!!
This was the day that is was supposed to rain - but lucky for us it was beautiful skies. On our tour we met some new friends Sean and Gabby from California :)
Then the next day we decided we were to go to Sintra - because the forecast was only PM showers and it was really nice in the morning. So we decided to brave it with our umbrella's and ballet flats- and we were off. Woke up for breakfast and we were off - bought the day pass for 12 euros to all the surrounding cities and transportation to them. First stop Sintra - and let me tell you it was pretty but to our bad luck as soon as we stepped out of the train onto the platform here comes the rain. great so as we got on the bus to head up the the castle of moors. There we just took a bunch of pictures an didn't go into the castle but walked along the outside. It was really pretty :)
Then after the castle of Moors we were on our way to the Palace - full of bright colors!! <3 it was really pretty despite the rain on our parade :) we also had some amazing Chinese food okay so it wasnt God sent but i have not had it in ages and it was rather cheap so it was amazing in my book lol :) yummmm
At this point of the day we are exhausted and wet and our poor shoes are soaked from the rain water and the hikes up the mt so we were gonna call it a day in Sintra head back to the hostel change our shoes and then figure out what we were going to do. So as we were waiting to figure out when the next train was coming the ticket booth guy convinced us to continue our journey instead of cutting it short. So off we were again on a bus instead of a train. To Cabo da Roca here we come!! We arrive at Cabo da Roca and it took some convincing to get steph off the bus at first. but we eventually made it off, the weather had taken a change for the worst. Eventually steph's umbrella broke in the wind we had a minor breakdown and then laughed about it hysterically :) oh the little things of life- but anyways the view was awesome - Cabo Da roca is the most western part of europe so therefore I was the closest to the states on that day ;) Which just so happend to be Valentines day - go figure haha.. anyways it was goregous and I think I was able to snap some pretty good pictures - check them out!!
Those bottom pictures are the famous dessert/pastry of Belem Portugal only 4 men know the ingredients so these are not the legit ones but we wanted to be able to compare them when we actually had the legendary ones- another reason we bought these was because we wanted out of the rain in a warm environment Thank god we found it!! <3 phew beautiful but weather stunk :( Above are also pictures of the dramatic death of stephs umbrella.. it was a rather halirous situation now looking back at it. Then we climbed into the bus again and on the train were we stopped in cascias.. but it was too dark and we were soaked so we continued our journey to the hostel. Changed and then hit the road for some food - we ended up stumbling upon the mall and eating subs again - go figure lol.. Then back to the hostel and off to bed.. it was a long tiring day.
Then Tuesday well we got up early and it was supposed to rain so of course it was beautiful out.. and just slight showers - the weather was just all around weird. In the morning we ate breakfast and hit the town for some shopping - seeing as they have different stores than there are in Germany so of course lol :) Where I almost bought a dress and steph bought 2 pairs of shoes, and i ripped open my scar on my foot but all is well and it is in good condition now. Then in the afternoon we went on another tour this time in the part of the city called Chido - which means squeak in portugese. It was really cool.. Oh and on a side note.. Lisbon is the 2nd oldest capital in the world athens was the first. Pictures as follows well it looks like I have to break this blog into to.. b/c the blog won't let me share more awesome photos with you so... Write more soon ;) and pictures of Chido and the great views coming up :)

Wow! Looks nice. I know very little about Portugal, so it's nice to read about it through your adventures. See you soon!
